BELGRADE Eight persons suspected of abuses in Galenika pharmaceutical company were arrested by police on Saturday morning. Former Galenika Director Nenad Ognjenovic is among the arrested suspects. Eight arrested for abuses in pharmaceutical company Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) has reported that the suspects were arrested in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Vrnjacka Banja. Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljovic has stated that the suspects had incurred damages worth EUR 12mn to Galenika and that the police believe that the amount will be even higher as the investigation progresses. He told a press conference that the charges were also filed against Former Velefarm Holding Director Dragoljub Vucicevic and Habit Pharm owner Radoslav Sekulic. According to Veljovic, financial transactions were done through Agrobanka bank. He stressed that EUR 7mn had been misappropriated during procurement of raw materials for production of medicines, EUR 2mn during the purchase of sculptures from Jeremic Foundry and more than EUR 2mn during the sale of drugs without the approval of the company’s management. Aside from Ognjenovic, former Galenika Assistant Director Goran Orlic, Jeremic Foundry co-owner and Director Miodrag Jeremic, entrepreneur Dragan Pavlovic, Unihemkom owner Zeljko Jovanovic, Farmanari Director Ljubica Trica, Trgosped Trans Director Milan Vladovic and court expert Zeljko Virmancevic were also arrested. Veljovic said that the investigation would continue and that nobody would be protected. First Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) on Saturday morning that the arrests were not the end of the investigation in the Galenika case and added that the probes into suspicious privatizations would continue and that more arrests would be made. Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) has reported that the suspects were arrested in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Vrnjačka Banja.
