The party said on Monday that Nemanja Šarović, a former MP, was facing criminal charges for his alleged involvement "in setting flags of the United States, the EU and NATO on fire".

The flags were burned as a form of protest, during a gathering last November in the wake of the Hague Tribunal's decision to acquit Kosovo Albanian Ramush Haradinaj, who was charged with committing war crimes against Serbs.

Along with Šarić, Aleksandar Dražić, a member of the SRS presidential collegium, faces the same proceedings.

Šarović and Dražić have been summoned to a police hearing on February 20.

They are suspected of "committing acts damaging the reputation of a foreign country or an international organization, which is punishable Serbia's Criminal Code".
