BELGRADE Ivica Dacic says the arrests taking place in several towns in Serbia on Monday, including in Kragujevac, have nothing to do with political considerations. One of the two arrest operations in Kragujevac today is related to abuse of money received by political parties. Kragujevac Mayor Veroljub Stevanovic reacted to the arrest to say they were "politically motivated". PM denies arrests are "politically motivated" “I talked to Veroljub Stevanovic a few months ago. The situation in Kragujevac is not good because there is a conflict between the local authorities, the police and the prosecutor's office, so it is necessary to establish the principles based on which they should cooperate in the future," the PM and interior minister told reporters during a visit to the MUP Counter-Terrorist Unit (PTJ). "But the (arrest) operation has nothing to do with this," he stressed. Dacic also noted that the second case in Kragujevac related to abuses in footballer transfers, while the operation in the orovince of Vojvodina had to do with "abuses in purchase of raw materials and evading taxes". Media reported on Monday that Director of the political organization "Together for Kragujevac" Zlatko Milic and owner of the accounting agencies AB2 and Kont AB2 Zarko Biorac were detained on charges of abusing their official positions and causing losses of about EUR 185,000 to the party, which is the amount of money Milic has illegally acquired. But Mayor Veroljub Stevanovic said that the arrests were in fact "the height of the campaign against the local authorities in Kragujevac". According to him, the town's administration "is convinced that the affair is a set up, but do not wish to interfere with the investigation". In a news conference called in the wake of the police raids this morning, he also said that "if this is somebody's attempt to replace the authorities in Kragujevac, they must know that only the residents of Kragujevac can do that". According to Stevanovic, MUP's anti-corruption team spent three months checking the spending of budget funds, "and found no irregularities". "Together for Sumadija" in October asked for the local police chief, Ivan Djorovic, to be sacked for allegedly threatening officials of the party, headed by Stevanovic. Djorovic dismissed the accusations against him as false. Beta Tanjug
