The village is located near the Merdare administrative line crossing between central Serbia and Kosovo.

According to Toplica Forest Management Company Director Nebojša Mihovilović, nobody was injured during the incident.

The thieves escaped across the administrative line, traveling in the direction of the town of Podujevo.

They left behind a chainsaw, which the police confiscated.

"By the time the Gendarmes arrived, they had illegally felled 200 trees," Mihovilović explained.

Lately, ethnic Albanians from Kosovo and Metohija have been invading areas of villages along the administrative line, carrying firearms as they set out to steal timber.

The villagers who remain in their homes in the affected area do not feel safe, and often organize night watches in order to protect themselves.
