THE HAGUE Hague indictee Ratko Mladic’s defense attorney Branko Lukic has told B92 that his client "felt much better on Friday". He pointed out, however, that his condition was still very difficult, adding that Mladic had been unconsciousness for almost five minutes. Hague: Mladic transferred back to his cell from hospital Lukic denied that his client had a stroke and stated he collapsed probably due to high blood pressure or high blood sugar. “It is obvious that long days of trial left their mark and we will try to convince the court, and we have already tried, that he cannot attend the trial every day, all day long. We will try to get shorter sessions and fewer work days in a week,” the lawyer explained. Later on Friday, Ratko Mladic was released from hospital and sent back to his cell. This is according to Hague spokesperson Nerma Jelacic. Mladic has returned to the detention unit after medical examinations confirmed there were no abnormalities in his health status and that no treatment is required, Jelacic said in a statement. She added that examinations had confirmed the previous medical report and that Mladic was fit to stand trial. Jelacic said the proceedings would restart with a cross-examination of prosecution witness David Harland, former UNPROFOR officer for civilian matters and political advisor, at 10 a.m. Monday. Presiding judge Alphons Orie said earlier Friday that the trial would resume Monday, as Mladic was undergoing a test that required him to be observed for 24 hours. The trial was halted on Thursday during the testimony by Harland, after the accused complained he was not feeling well. Previously, the spokesperson said that Mladic had been rushed to the hospital as a precautionary measure. Mladic stands accused before the Hague of genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of the laws and customs of war. He was arrested in Serbia on May 26, 2011, and was extradited to the Hague soon, where he pleaded not guilty on all counts. His trial started on May 16 this year.
