General Nebojsa Pavkovic’s lawyer has stated that it is unacceptable that people learn from media that they are being criminally prosecuted. Commenting on Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic’s statement that Pavkovic was one of the persons who helped Hague indictee Ratko Mladic hide, attorney Aleksandar Aleksic told Radio B92 that the allegations were not true. Retired general denies harboring Mladic “I spoke to him on the phone and he authorized me to say on his behalf that nothing that Mr. Vukcevic said about General Pavkovic is true, that there is evidence to support it and that General Pavkovic is ready to give his statement to the War Crimes Prosecution about everything that was said at the press conference. I must add that it is not clear to me under which law General Pavkovic as a chief of the general staff at the time was in any way responsible for General Mladic,” the attorney explained. Pavkovic was in The Hague sentenced to 22 years in prison for war crimes in Kosovo. The War Crimes Prosecution has launched a proceeding against 13 persons suspected of harboring Mladic and Stojan Zupljanin. Nebojsa Pavkovic (FoNet, file) B92
