Serbia’s Organized Crime Prosecutor Miljko Radisavljevic has announced that arrests for corruption will soon be made. He added that the arrests would be made in connection with financial and economic crime and their affect on the state institutions. Prosecutor announces arrests for corruption “This is the biggest problem of our country when it comes to crime and corruption,” Radisavljevic told daily Blic. He explained that organized crime in Serbia had been reduced to “local groups” and added that the level of security in the country was extremely high. According to the prosecutor, an excellent coordination and cooperation between security services and police has contributed to it. When asked whether organized crime could be traced to Serbian politics, Radisavljevic said that “criminal groups as a rule try to involve public figures into their business who are not always immune to tempting offers that come from successful businessmen”. “We have launched a big proceeding against one of the most powerful Balkan mafia organization, we have charged all those we have evidence against,” the organized crime prosecutor noted. He added that the authorities would seize more property acquired through crime, stressing that Serbian criminals’ property in Spain was especially interesting. According to him, they have hundreds of millions of euros on hidden accounts and in real-estate in various exotic islands, Spain and in the countries of the former Yugoslavia.
