EULEX Prosecutor Jonathan Ratel has proposed that Council of Europe Rapporteur Dick Marty appear as a witness in the organ trade case. The trial in the illegal human organ trafficking case started in Pristina on Friday. “Marty should testify in organ trade case” Marty made a report on the human organ trade in Kosovo. Seven suspects are standing trial in the Medicus Clinic case. They are accused of performing illegal organ transplantations in the Pristina-based Medicus Clinic. Ratel believes that Marty has evidence that could be important for the case. He read a part of the report in which Marty stated that he had revealed “convincing indications” that the human organ trade in 1998-1999 in Kosovo “is closely connected with the current case”. Defense counsels oppose the request to call Marty as a witness. The trial chamber president has said that the court will decide on Ratel’s request in the next several days. On Friday 66-year-old Canadian Raul Fine testified that he had paid EUR 80,000 to an Israeli to arrange a kidney transplantation in the Kosovo clinic. At the beginning of the trial, Pole Tadeusz Sadaj testified that he had paid EUR 25,000 for a kidney transplantation in the Medicus Clinic in 2008. Dick Marty Tanjug
