Priština court extends custody for war crimes defendants

An EULEX pre-trial judge of the District Court of Priština has extended the custody against the defendants in the Klečka war crimes case.

An EULEX pre-trial judge of the District Court of Pristina has extended the custody against the defendants in the Klecka war crimes case. Custody was extended to one more month for five persons suspected of committing war crimes in the village of Klecka, central Kosovo, in 1998. The court ruling was delivered to the defendants on Wednesday and will be valid until July 15, a spokesperson for the EU mission in the province said. A former minister in the Pristina government and former member of ethnic Albanian KLA Fatmir Limaj is also suspected of involvement in the war crimes committed in the KLA prison camp in Klecka, where victims were Serbs, Roma, and also ethnic Albanians. But Limaj is currently serving as a member of the Kosovo assembly for Hashim Thaci's Democratic Party of Kosovo (DPK), and is using his immunity to avoid facing the court. Limaj is accused of issuing orders for other KLA members to murder two captured Serbs.
