Verdicts confirmed in paramilitary case

The War Crimes Chamber of the Belgrade Appellate Court confirmed the verdict of the former District Court in the Scorpions paramilitaries case.

The War Crimes Chamber of the Belgrade Appellate Court confirmed the verdict of the former District Court in the Scorpions paramilitaries case. Three members of the paramilitary unit were sentenced to imprisonment for committing war crimes against civilians during the conflicts in Kosovo in 1999. Verdicts confirmed in paramilitary case According to the Appellate Court statement, the War Crimes Chamber confirmed the verdict to Dragan Medic and Dragan Borojevic, who were sentenced to 20 years of prison, and to Miodrag Solaja, who was sentenced to 15 years of prison, for the criminal acts of war crimes against civilians. The first-instance verdict against defendant Zeljko Djukic was reversed, and the case was returned to the first instance court for retrial, while Djukic will remain in custody until further decision of the first instance court. Medic, Borojevic, Solaja and Djukic were found guilty for violating the rules of international law as members of the Scorpions unit, during the NATO bombing of the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SRJ) and during the conflicts of the Serbian police and military forces with the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). According to the indictment, upon their arrival in the town of Podujevo on March 28, 1999, they killed 14 ethnic Albanian civilians, seven of whom were minors.

Verdicts confirmed in paramilitary case

According to the Appellate Court statement, the War Crimes Chamber confirmed the verdict to Dragan Medić and Dragan Borojević, who were sentenced to 20 years of prison, and to Miodrag Šolaja, who was sentenced to 15 years of prison, for the criminal acts of war crimes against civilians.

The first-instance verdict against defendant Željko Đukić was reversed, and the case was returned to the first instance court for retrial, while Đukić will remain in custody until further decision of the first instance court.
