According to Croatian Deputy Police Chief Milijan Brkic, Zemun Clan members Milos Simovic and Sretko Kalinic got in an altercation because of a woman. According to Zagreb daily Jutarnji List, Simovic shot and wounded Kalinic because he was in a secret relationship with Simovic’s wife. Zemun gangsters fell out “over woman” The daily writes that this led to the end of their friendship and to a fight that ended with Kalinic getting shot in Croatia several days ago. The daily reports that they had been meeting earlier in restaurants in Croatia and Simovic’s wife was bringing them money from Serbia while they continued to hide from the authorities. Jutarnji List also writes that Kalinic revealed these facts and others of his criminal activity to Croatian investigators while recovering from the gunshot wound under police surveillance at a Zagreb hospital. “Police are therefore on their way to solving a dozen murders committed over the last several years in Serbia, Croatia, Holland and Spain,” the daily writes. Kalinic is a Croatian citizen and his extradition to Serbia is unlikely until that country changes its Constitution, as is the possibility that he might serve his total of 70 years in prison there. Both Kalinic and Simovic were conspirators in the 2003 murder of Serbian PM Zoran Djindjic. They were tried in absentia and sentenced to 30 years each for their role in the assassination. For other crimes, that included 19 murders, they were handed down 40 years in jail each. Simovic has been in the custody of Serbian police since Thursday.
