An ethnic Albanian accused of committing war crimes in Kosovo was arrested at the Munich Airport yesterday. The suspect is accused of being a member of the Anton Lekaj group. Lekaj was previously found guilty and sentenced to 13 years in prison. K. Albanian arrested on Serbian warrant Serbian Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor Bruno Vekaric told B92 that the Kosovo Albanian was suspected of committing war crimes against civilians in the town of Djakovica in June 1999. He was arrested at the airport on Tuesday while he was traveling from Chicago to Tirana via Munich, along with his family. “The procedure against the person detained in Germany was stopped, considering that he wasn’t available to our law enforcement. We expect that an extradition procedure with the competent authorities in Germany will begin soon,” he explained The Supreme Court of Serbia confirmed in 2007 the Belgrade District Court War Crimes Trial Chamber’s verdict sentencing Lekaj to 13 years in prison for war crimes in Kosovo. “He was convicted primarily for the crimes in Pastri Hotel, when his group, which was very close to Ramush Hardinaj, committed serious crimes against the civilian population. Several persons were tortured and at least four murdered,” Vekaric said.

Serbian Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor Bruno Vekarić told B92 that the Kosovo Albanian was suspected of committing war crimes against civilians in the town of Đakovica in June 1999.
