Serbian, Croatian police to set up center

The Serbian and Croatian Interior Ministries will be forming a joint center for the fight against organized crime. It was announced that a center will be set up with a joint database of information on organized crime in the region. Serbian, Croatian police to set up center Croatian Interior Minister Tomislav Karamarko told Zagreb daily Jutarnji List that the center will either have its headquarters in Belgrade and be led by a team from Zagreb or the other way around. Speaking on the murder of suspected Serbian drug dealer Cvetko Simic, whose dismembered body was found Zagreb's Lake Jarun, Karamarko said that Simic was “a part of an organization that insured the so-called Balkan route for the sale of narcotics from the Near East to Western Europe, and from South America to Europe by sea.” A rented car was also found on February 18 that was believed to be used by Simic. The main question police are trying to figure out is where Simic was killed, because it is believed that his body was cut into pieces after the killing. Simic’s torso and legs were found in different parts of the lake and his identity was confirmed after DNA tests were run. Serbian and Croatian police officials vowed cooperation in this and any other crimes related to organized criminal groups.
