The Serbian police (MUP) chief in the southern town of Vranje has been dismissed from office, reports said. The decision was made by Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, B92 has learned. Minister sacks local police chief Vranje MUP chief Stole Filipovic was sacked only a day after Presevo policeman Zoran Memarovic was arrested on suspicion that he shot and killed Macedonian citizen Mahir Jakupi. A source told B92 that a special commission set up by MUP was recently conducting an inspection of the Vranje Police Department (PU) work. The commission, according to this, found "some problems", which were seen as responsibility of Filipovic. Since 2000 and the armed ethnic Albanian insurgency in the south, the Vranje PU had four chiefs.

Vranje MUP chief Stole Filipović was sacked only a day after Preševo policeman Zoran Memarović was arrested on suspicion that he shot and killed Macedonian citizen Mahir Jakupi.

The commission, according to this, found "some problems", which were seen as responsibility of Filipović.
