The First Municipal Public Prosecution in Belgrade indicted Miladin Kovacevic for inflicting severe injuries to Bryan Steinhauer in May of 2008. Public Prosecution Spokesman Tomo Zoric said that Kovacevic, who was studying in the United States, was accused of inflicting severe, life threatening, injuries to U.S. citizen Bryan Steinhauer during a bar fight on May 4, 2008 in the state of New York. Serbian prosecution indicts Kovacevic “The indictment further accuses Kovacevic of committing a criminal act of forging an identification document, because on June 9, 2008 at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport he used the fake public ID document – a passport as a real one and showed it to officers of Serbian MUP border police during the passport control,” the spokesman said. He added that the indictment was also raised against former consul and deputy consul of Serbia in New York Igor Milosevic and Slobodan Nenadic for abuse of office and against Kovacevic for enticing them to abuse their office. On June 8, 2008, at the office of Serbian General Consulate in New York, they enabled the accused to leave the U.S. territory and avoid the criminal proceedings under the indictment for inflicting serious injuries to Steinhauer by overstepping their official authority. He emphasized that the indictment in this case was a result of good cooperation between the U.S. and Serbian prosecutions.
