Seventeen years after the kidnapping of 19 people in Strpci, the Islamic community is continuing to demand investigations from the state. “To this day the details of the kidnapping are not known, and the bodies of the kidnapped, who are believed to be dead, have not been found,” Dean of the Faculty for Islamic Studies Almir Pramenkovic said. Islamic community demands Strpci investigation “The fact that after 17 years there is no courtroom epilogue to this tragedy and that the executors of this crime have not been punished is defeating,” he said. Social Democratic Party official and national MP Meho Omerovic said that the Strpci kidnappings are the “most shameful and blackest stain on the pages of Serbian history." He reminded that the perpetrators, organizers, and those who ordered the crime are not only unpunished after 17 years, but that the society is “trying to put of everyone’s memory the fact that these people where killed because they were not Serbs." “Serbia owes it to its citizens, especially the victims and their families, to find out the truth about this crime, because based on the documentation from the trial of the only person who was processed thus far, Nebojsa Ranisavljevic, it is clear that senior state officials were aware of the preparations for this kidnapping,” Omerovic said. In February 1993, a paramilitary formation kidnapped 19 Muslim passengers from a train traveling from Belgrade to Bar. They were never heard from again.
