Hague Tribunal President Patrick Robinson has partially adopted a demand for the financing of Radovan Karadzic’s defense. Robinson ordered the court secretariat to pay eight members of Karadzic’s team by the beginning of the trial, and five more once the trial starts on March 1. Request approved for financing Karadzic defense The members of the former Republic of Srpska president’s defense team will be paid for 1,200 hours of work a month until the trial starts and 750 hours during the trial, according to Robinson’s decision. According to the rules of the tribunal, their prices are EUR 25 hours per hour, which is EUR 3,000 monthly before the trial begins and EUR 1,850 once it starts. In an earlier decision, the financing of two members of Karadzic’s team was approved, along with one advisor who was part of the expert defense team and was making EUR 25 per hour. Richard Harvey, who was appoointed to take over Karadzic’s defense if the accused refuses to cooperate and appear in court, will be paid EUR 71 per hour if he participates in the trial. Karadzic is accused of war crimes and genocide committed during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina and is defending himself with the help of a legal and expert team.
