Raids net Serbian, Montenegrin traffickers

B92 has learned that Serbian police (MUP) in Novi Sad, in cooperation with the Republic of Srpska (RS) police, arrested six persons in two separate raids. Police Director Milorad Veljovic explained this morning that the six are suspected of manufacturing and distributing narcotics, and that they were arrested in the municipalities of Backa Palanka and Sremska Mitrovica. Raids net Serbian, Montenegrin traffickers The operation, conducted last night, broke up another international drug smuggling channel, Veljovic said. The raid in Backa Palanka discovered a lab fully equipped for producing a type of marijuana known as skunk. The lab was located in the home of 24-year-old Zvonko Sokol. The second arrest operation took place in Sremska Mitrovica with three Montenegrin citizens – Enver Ljuca, 58, Damir Ljuca, 19, and Sasa Jovanovic 29 – and two Serbians – Dejan Kuzmanovic, 29, and Aleksandar Davidovic, 23 – detained. Veljovic also said that this international crime group was responsible for the attempted smuggling of almost ten kilograms of narcotics, and that it smuggled drugs from Albania via Montenegro into Serbia over an extended period of time. The drugs were meant for the Novi Sad and Belgrade markets, while some also ended up sold in Croatia and western Europe.
