EULEX's chief prosecutor says the EU mission has opened a new inquest into the bomb attack on a bus near Podujevo in 2001, killing 12 Serbs and injuring 40. Theo Jacobs said yesterday that the case would be given to the special prosecutor's office in charge of war crimes cases. EULEX: New probe into 2001 bus bombing A terrorist attack on the bus in February 2001 near Podujevo killed ten Serbs, while two succumbed to their injuries later. Speaking to Kosovo Mitrovica Contact Plus radio, Jacobs said that EULEX prosecutors had no suspect, but they were aware that the attack could not have been carried out by someone working alone. In March 2009, the Kosovo Supreme Court, whose council also included EULEX judges, ruled to quash a 40-year prison sentence and acquitted the sole defendent, Florim Ejupi, due to lack of proof. Jacobs said that a new investigation could not be aimed against Ejupi and that new evidence could only be used against other individuals. The explosive that blew up the bus and killed 12 Kosovo Serbs was planted in a sewer on the Podujevo road. A KFOR armored vehicle, which was escorting a column of six buses, was the first to drive over the location where the device was planted, but without any consequences. British troops later uncovered a 600-metre fuse beside the road that had been used to activate the 100 kilograms of explosives. The fuse led to a house on a nearby hill.
