Suspected journalist killer arrested

Željko Milovanović, a.k.a. Gavra, suspected of murdering Ivo Pukanić and Niko Franjić in Zagreb, has been arrested in Belgrade.

Zeljko Milovanovic, a.k.a. Gavra, suspected of murdering Ivo Pukanic and Niko Franjic in Zagreb, has been arrested in Belgrade. This was confirmed by Interior Minister Ivica Dacic. Suspected journalist killer arrested Dacic stated that Milovanovic was arrested last night in the Belgrade neighborhood of Dorcol. According to him, Milovanovic was armed at the time he was detained. This is the second arrested related to the murder of the Croatian journalist and publisher in the last two days. Croatian police suspect that Milovanovic brought the explosive which killed Pukanic and Franjic in on a scooter to the yard of the Nacional newspaper in October last year. Prior to that, Milovanovic rented out an apartment across the street from where Pukanic lived and monitored his movements for a month. The suspect was in Doboj in late October, but Republic of Srpska police were unable to apprehend him. Milovanovic is a citizen of Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, and had in Interpol warrant out for his arrest. He was born in Croatia, and lived in Sombor, Serbia, since 2005. Milovanovic also has a fairly large police record. He was a member of Milorad Ulemek’s Special Operations Unit (JSO) for seven years. Among other serious crime, the unit, now disbanded, was involved in the 2003 murder of PM Zoran Djindjic. Milovanovic is also wanted for war crimes allegedly committed in Slavonija by Croatian courts and for robbery, kidnapping and murder, by courts in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Subotica. There are also ongoing investigations against Montenegrin citizen Svetozar Djurovic and Serbian Milenko Kuzmanovic, who are linked to crime boss Sreten Jocic, known as Joca Amsterdam, who is currently in custody in relation to the Pukanic murder.
