One of the former leaders of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), Fatmir Limaj, is under "intense war crimes investigation". This was announced in Belgrade on Saturday by Serbia's War Crimes Prosecution, whose spokesman Bruno Vekaric said that in order for this office to process someone acquitted by the Hague Tribunal, it must consult with the presiding judge of a chamber that tried the the case. Ex-KLA faces war crimes probe "That is precisely what we have done at the beginning of April, and in some way the position has been harmonized that our prosecution can continue with its procedure because our arguments are irrefutable," he told state broadcaster RTS. The Hague acquitted Limaj and Ramush Haradinaj in a case of war crimes committed in the village of Klecka. The prosecution's probe now focuses on crimes committed in other locations, including the May 10, 1998 KLA attack on the Belacevac mine, when ten miners were kidnapped. The prosecution also has evidence about kidnappings of at least 30 Serb civilians in the Drenica region, as well as several police officers and at least 11 ethnic Albanian civilians, RTs reported. The investigation so far revealed that those responsible for these crimes are Limaj, a.k.a. Celiku, Sahit Jashari, Sulejman Selimi, a.k.a. Sultan – now "a general in the Kosovo Security Forces" – and Sami Lushtaku.
