The Bosnian courts have decided to transfer the case against Naser Orić for war crimes committed in Srebrenica and Bratunac to the national prosecution.

The Bosnian courts have decided to transfer the case against Naser Oric for war crimes committed in Srebrenica and Bratunac to the national prosecution. The courts took the decision on the basis of the fact that on April 9, the Bosnian Prosecutor’s Office ruled on a motion by Oric’s defense team, stating that the case fell into the “very sensitive“ category, media report. Oric case falls under national jurisdiction, Sarajevo rules The decision was also taken because Oric, the former Bosnian Muslim military commander in the region, and other suspects occupied very important positions in Srebrenica at the time, and also because the case pertains to a large number of victims, for whose deaths their responsibility is being sought. The Hague Tribunal Appeals Chamber acquitted Oric of war crimes against Serb civilians last year. The Bijelina District Prosecution, which then launched a new investigation of its own, is entitled to appeal against the Bosnian courts’ decision.
