"Underworld kingpin" arrested in Belgrade

Serbian police (MUP) have arrested Sreten Jocic, a.k.a. Joca Amsterdam, in connection to last year's murder of a Croatian journalist and publisher. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic confirmed the arrest, related to Ivo Pukanic's murder in Zagreb in October 2008. "Underworld kingpin" arrested in Belgrade Jocic is currently being questioned by the police. The arrest came on the orders of the Serbian Special Organized Crime Prosecution. Police apprehended Jocic in his rented home in the Belgrade neighborhood of Dedinje. The house in Tolstojeva St. was previously owned by Slobodan Milosevic. Croatian media reported last week that a collaborating witness told the police that Jocic was the organizer of the hit, which killed two people. It was also announced that Croatia would issue an international warrant for Jocic. For several decades, the media reported about him as being one of the leading narco-bosses in Europe. Zeljko Milovanovic of Doboj, Bosnia, is suspected of planting the explosives that killed Pukanic. Milovanovic was a member of the disbanded State Security (DB) Special Operations Unit (JSO), wanted in Serbia on a number of criminal charges.

Jocić is currently being questioned by the police.

The arrest came on the orders of the Serbian Special Organized Crime Prosecution.

Croatian media reported last week that a collaborating witness told the police that Jocić was the organizer of the hit, which killed two people.

It was also announced that Croatia would issue an international warrant for Jocić.
