Valjevo murder suspects remanded in custody

The investigative judge at the Valjevo District Court has remanded five suspects in the murder of Zeljko Djedovic in custody for a month. The decision to remand the suspects—Milan Lazarevic (38), Milan Milinkovic (33), Nebojsa Goloskokovic (28) and Aleksandar Pavlovic (38) from Valjevo, and Zoran Jelicic (40) from Belgrade— was taken after 10 hours of questioning. Valjevo murder suspects remanded in custody The group, led by Lazarevic, a notorious racketeer, are suspected of murder, illegal possession of weapons, bribery and assault. Jelicic and Lazarevic are suspected of killing Djedovic on Friday, April 3, with police officer Milan Milijanovic suspected of abetting them. Milijanovic is suspected of supplying Lazarevic with a police uniform, equipment and badge that Lazarevic later gave to Jelicic. The police officer gave a statement earlier at Valjevo hospital, where he is recovering after being involved in a car accident that same night. Fleeing from the police, his car swerved off the road near Lajkovac, whereupon he was arrested and taken to hospital. Djedovic and Lazarevic have been feuding since September 2006, with the former having already been tried for incitement to murder Lazarevic in 2007-2008. The Serbian Supreme Court quashed guilty verdicts on both occasions over technicalities, one that carried a 6.5 year sentence, and the other 5.5 years. Valjevo has been the scene of a number of armed robberies and murders over the last several months.
