Police and customs officers from Serbia, Hungary, Germany and the Czech Republic have arrested 5 suspects and seized over 20kg of heroin in a joint operation. According to Serbian MUP, around 170 police and customs officers took part in the operation, which was part of a more extensive crackdown on international organized drug trafficking groups. 20kg of heroin seized in major drugs bust The statement says that in a final operation carried out on January 7 in a number of different places, customs and police officers conducted searches during which they uncovered a further 9kg of heroin and 5kg of a mixing substance. The suspects include a drug dealer from Scandinavia, two from Germany, and two males of Serbian origin from the Czech Republic and Germany. The group’s logistical headquarters are believed to be located in Regensburg, reads the statement, adding that the drugs came from warehouses in Hungary and Serbia, were transferred via “the Balkan route“ to Germany, then extracted from secret compartments in vehicles and mixed for onward distribution to Germany and Scandinavia. The January 7 operation was termed a “great success in the crackdown on international drug trafficking,“ the statement concludes.
