Serbia to mark Anti-Corruption Day

Today marks International Anti-Corruption Day in commemoration of December 9, 2003, when the UN Convention Against Corruption was signed. This year the spotlight is on so-called whistle-blowers, personnel who highlight corruption and other irregularities in the work of the institutions that employ them. Serbia to mark Anti-Corruption Day Transparency International Program Director in Serbia Nemanja Nenadic said that Serbia would mark that day without any visible progress registered in combating corruption, even though the issue has been raised to the high level of a state priority. Nenadic said that parliament had adopted very important anti-corruption laws this year, but that the problem was that they were not being implemented “as prescribed or are being applied selectively.“ International Anti-Corruption Day is being marked in Belgrade with a Transparency International conference on combating corruption and protecting personnel who report corruption.

Transparency International Program Director in Serbia Nemanja Nenadić said that Serbia would mark that day without any visible progress registered in combating corruption, even though the issue has been raised to the high level of a state priority.
