Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz says in his latest report that Serbia has made “notable progress in cooperation with the Tribunal,” B92 understands. The main problems remain the arrests of Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic. Brammertz report to cite "notable progress" The two remaining fugitives need to be delivered to the Hague as soon as possible, states the report, which will be considered by the UN Security Council on December 12. In his regular half-year report, Brammertz says that the arrest of the two fugitives remains a “key area“ of Serbia’s cooperation with the Hague, which he ascribes to the problems in the work of the civil security services inherited from those services’ prior administrations. The prosecutor notes that the situation has improved in the intervening period, as has coordination and planning in the services involved in the hunt for Mladic and Hadzic. Enhanced cooperation with judicial organs and political support led to the arrests of Stojan Zupljanin and Radovan Karadzic, which he defines as turning points in Serbia’s cooperation. Brammertz adds that during his last visit to Serbia, he was presented with the plan of action being taken to find the two remaining fugitives. “If those plans are successfully carried out and if the existing level of necessary political support is sustained, further results can be achieved,“ said the prosecutor. The prosecutor also expressed his thanks to the National Council for Cooperation with the Hague Tribunal for its efforts in supplying documents from state archives required for ongoing Hague trials. He pointed out, however, that there had been certain problems in obtaining documents from military archives required for the trial of General Momcilo Perisic. Brammertz’s report also highlights the problems experienced by certain witness summoned by the Hague. Although the Tribunal and authorities in Serbia are working together to protect them, "in certain cases witnesses have received threats,“ while others have refused to testify.
