An Israeli national has been arrested in Kosovo on suspicion of negotiating an illegal organ transplant, says the Kosovo Police Service (KPS). According to KPS spokesman Veton Elshani, Moshe Harel was arrested in Pristina yesterday afternoon on suspicion of organizing the arrival in Kosovo of a Turkish kidney donor, as well as of the intended recipient, another Israeli national. New arrest in organ transplant case This is the fifth arrest so far in the organ transplant case, at the center of which is the Medicus clinic in the Kosovo capital. Police believe that Harel has brokered other such operations, which was why he frequently traveled between Turkey, Moldova and Israel. His passport has been confiscated and he is obliged to report to the police in person twice a week. One of the main suspects in the case, the man suspected of performing the organ transplant operation, Turkish doctor Jusuf Erchin Sonmez, is still on the run. Earlier, the Serbian War Crimes Prosecution said that it would be submitting the complete material in the organ harvesting investigation in Kosovo to the Council of Europe and UN, said a spokesman. The fact that UNMIK denied the existence of a report that it turned out existed after all, carrying the organization’s stamp, and that the prosecution obtained it unofficially, points to a lot of inconsistencies in the investigation. Indeed, it could even point to the existence of some kind of criminal activity within the UNMIK framework in Kosovo. “So, first of all, we have UNMIK’s response to the War Crimes Prosecution to the request to send all the necessary documentation and evidence from any investigation into organ harvesting that was carried out in Kosovo. We received a negative response—quite literally, that no investigation had ever taken place,“ Bruno Vekaric told B92. “Secondly, we have, under the same UNMIK stamp, a report listing all the things that were discovered in that house. That’s the first fact I’d draw their attention to,“ he said. “The second fact is that, watching your B92 Investigates program, it can be seen that the prosecutor that was at the scene wasn’t telling the truth,“ noted Vekaric.
