The prosecution wants to widen the investigation against former Serbian Football Union (FSS) Chairman Zvezdan Terzic. The investigation will now also include the transfer of former OFK Belgrade player Srdjan Stanic to Spartak Moscow, where Terzic is suspected of having embezzled EUR 1.3mn. Probe widened against ex-FSS president The investigative judge at the Belgrade District Court will rule on whether to widen the probe. Terzic is already suspected of embezzling about USD 840,000 during the sale of OFK Belgrade player Vanja Grubac to SV Hamburg. Terzic is on the run and has an international warrant out for his arrest. Police earlier stated that Terzic had signed an agreement as OFK Belgrade director in June 2003 for Stanic’s transfer to Spartak, where the club was to receive EUR 1.7mn. However, Terzic is suspected of telling the Russians to pay the club EUR 400,000 and the rest into the bank account of a company in Frankfurt. The former FSS chairman then showed the club a contract indicating a significantly smaller transfer fee for the player. An inquiry is also under way against the former secretary-general of the Organization of Serbia First Division Clubs, Milovan Nikodinovic, who is suspected of helping Terzic in the Grubac deal. If the investigation is widened and no knew applications are submitted in the meantime, the court could decide to temporarily suspend the investigation until Terzic becomes available to the national judicial authorities. The court can also carry out an investigation and transfer the case to the prosecution, who would then decide whether to file an indictment and propose Terzic be tried in absentia.
