President Boris Tadic met with Chief Hague Prosecutor Serge Brammertz in Belgrade on Thursday. Tadic said during their conversation that the new Serbian government has shown it is firmly oriented to successfully complete cooperation with that court. Tadic said that the renewal of the process against former KLA commander Ramush Haradinaj would be in the interest of justice and truth. He underscored that all who have committed crimes should receive adequate punishment, primarily because of the families of the victims, and for the same of justice and reconciliation among the nations of the former Yugoslavia. Brammertz has already met with Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic and Justice Minister Snezana Malovic at government HQ. Yesterday, following meetings with Action Team coordinators Rasim Ljajic and Vladimir Vukcevic, he said that he hoped that the hunt for the remaining Hague fugitives, Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic, would be successful. The prosecutor stressed that he had had “very good and productive” conversations with the new Action Team members, and that they had informed him of previous and ongoing operations. Brammertz’s appraisal of Serbian cooperation with the Tribunal could be of key significance for the EU Council of Ministers’ decision as to whether to unblock the Interim Trade Agreement with Serbia. Ljajic discussed with Brammertz issues pertaining to access to archives and documents and witness protection, stressing that “major progress” had been made in these areas.
