Stanko Subotic, charged with cigarette smuggling during the late 90s, has been released today from extraditional custody in Moscow, says his lawyer. Subotic was in custody awaiting extradition to Serbia. Subotic was one of the kingpins of a cigarette smuggling ring during the Nineties. As the chief organizer of a criminal group, he was charged with illegally importing and selling cigarettes on the Serbian market. Subotic is standing trial for cigarette smuggling in the case together with 14 others including former Customs Chief Mihail Kertes and Slobodan Milosevic’s son Marko Milosevic. According to the indictment, the defendants are accused of earning EUR 2.2mn from the illegal import and sale of cigarettes in Serbia.

He was arrested on April 28 at Moscow’s Sheremyetevo aiport, and two days later, the Serbian Ministry of Justice asked for his extradition.

Subotić was one of the kingpins of a cigarette smuggling ring during the Nineties. As the chief organizer of a criminal group, he was charged with illegally importing and selling cigarettes on the Serbian market.

Subotić is standing trial for cigarette smuggling in the case together with 14 others including former Customs Chief Mihail Kertes and Slobodan Milošević’s son Marko Milošević.

According to the indictment, the defendants are accused of earning EUR 2.2mn from the illegal import and sale of cigarettes in Serbia.
