Student seriously wounded in Belgrade shooting

A high school student, identified as R.P., of Belgrade, has been wounded in a shooting close to his school in the city center.

A high school student, identified as R.P., of Belgrade, has been wounded in a shooting close to his school in the city center. B92 understands unofficially that the police have arrested the suspected gunman, M.J. (36). Student seriously wounded in Belgrade shooting R.P. underwent surgery lasting several hours, and is still in a critical condition, said surgeon Zlatibor Loncar. "The young man’s liver, spleen, pancreas and duodenum were injured. After surgery that lasted about four hours, he was transferred to the intensive care unit for further treatment,” said Loncar. He stated that doctors would be able to give more a precise prognosis about the victim’s further recovery and condition later today. The headmaster at the school, Miljanko Fortic, said that the student had been shot by an “older man from the neighborhood”. "Our student was in a coffee shop with his girlfriend 100 meters from the school. The shooting had nothing to do with this school”, said Fortic. Police and ambulance arrived at the scene moments after the incident.
