The War Crimes Prosecution says it has brought charges against four members of the disbanded Scorpions unit for crimes against civilians in Podujevo in 1999. Zeljko Djukic, Dragan Medic, Dragan Bojevic and Miodrag Solaj, members of the unit that operated under the auspices of the Interior Ministry, are accused of shooting at a group that included 19 women and children from the Gashi family on March 28, 1999. Charges brought over Podujevo massacre According to the indictment, five of the children survived, sustaining serious injuries that would have been fatal “had it not been for the medical intervention of members of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit.” “MUP headquarters in Podujevo immediately withdrew the Scorpion members from Kosovo after finding out about the event,” reads a statement. In June 2005, Sasa Cvjetan was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for his involvement in this crime.
