Warrant for mufti’s arrested withdrawn

The trial chamber in the trial of a Wahhabi group has withdrawn a warrant for the arrest of Mufti Muamer Zukorlic. Zukorlic was scheduled to testify in court yesterday but failed to appear. The warrant for Zukorlic’s arrest was withdrawn after the trial chamber received an explanation from the Meshihat, the Islamic Community’s headquarters, as to why he had not appeared in court. Warrant for mufti’s arrested withdrawn Trial chamber President Milan Ranic said that he had been informed by the Meshihat that Zukorlic had been forced to cancel his trip to Belgrade for security reasons. According to the Meshihat, the mufti was asking for a new date to be set for his testimony, so that he could plan his trip from Novi Pazar to Belgrade accordingly, Ranic said. The judge said that the warrant for Zukorlic’s arrest had been issued because the mufti had already failed to appear in court twice. “We cannot wait for Zukorlic to plan his obligations indefinitely, since he is a key witness in the events that occurred in Novi Pazar, and his testimony is required,” he insisted. The group of 15 Wahhabists on trial are suspected of planning Zukorlic’s assassination.
