The new Hague chief prosecutor has set mid-May as the deadline for submission of Serbia’s report on cooperation with the Tribunal. Serge Brammertz said he would present the report to the UN Security Council in June. "Serbian Hague report by May" Asked by a journalist from daily Blic if his appraisal would open or close the doors of the EU to Serbia, he replied that “as far as Serbia’s relations with the EU are concerned, that’s a political question you should ask the EU.” “I’m a prosecutor and I won’t meddle in politics,” he said. The prosecutor dismissed allegations that Serbia had stopped cooperating with the Hague Tribunal because of the situation in Kosovo, and insisted that cooperation still existed. “Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic and Minister Rasim Ljajic have informed me of the difficulties they’re facing, but stressed that Serbia would continue to answer the Tribunal’s demands for access to documents and witnesses,” he said. “I believe that the remaining fugitives will be extradited to The Hague. I don’t imagine the Tribunal will close its doors, when not all the fugitives have been arrested,” Brammertz surmised.
