The war crimes trial of Serb Radical Party leader Vojislav Seselj at the Hague has been adjourned until Tuesday, January 22. The reasons for the adjournment have not been made public, as the decision was taken by Presiding Judge Jean-Claude Antonetti at a closed session. Seselj trial adjourned until Tuesday Without citing its reasons, the Tribunal then announced that the trial would resume on Tuesday. At the beginning of yesterday’s session, Seselj submitted a number of procedural requests and asked for the closed part of yesterday’s session to be made public. The defendant said that “SMS messages” had been discussed during that part of the hearing, but no mention had been made of who they had been sent to and by. On the witness stand currently is prosecution witness Goran Stoparic, who is testifying about the links between Serb Radical Party (SRS) volunteers and crimes committed in Vukovar in the autumn of 1991. Stoparic was then a member of the Leva Supoderica unit comprising SRS volunteers. Prosecutor Christina Dahl was due to finish her questioning of the witness today, after which Seselj was to begin his cross-examination. The defendant is accused of committing atrocities against non-Serbs in Croatia, Vojvodina and Bosnia-Hercegovina between 1991 and 1993.
