A philosophy professor, Sevdail Hyseni, 48, has become the first ethnic Albanian rehabilitated at Vranje District Court. The court confirmed that Hyseni had been a victim of persecution for political and ideological reasons. Albanian rehabilitated in Serbian court “The plaintiff, Sevdail Hyseni, was a victim of persecution for political and ideological reasons, as a result of which he was denied the right to employment and freedom of expression,” according to the ruling read out by presiding judge Marina Andjelkovic. “The court determined that in 1983, I had been appointed to the post of professor at a primary school in the village of Zarbinca in the Bujanovac municipality, but that I was forbidden from working there after the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party withheld its approval, for, what it termed at the time, moral-political ineligibility,” said Hyseni. He added that the court in Vranje had also confirmed that security services in Bujanovac in 1994 had banned distribution of his satirical book “When Fortune Laughs at You” and had destroyed all copies in circulation. “That book was the reason the District Court in Bujanovac launched legal proceedings against me in 1996 for “mocking the Yugoslav people and nation,” said Hyseni, adding that those “nasty charges” were dropped in 2001 after more than 20 hearings.
