The Customs Directorate said today it confiscated 163.4 kilos of heroin at the Gradina border crossing with Bulgaria. The drugs were found in a truck with Turkish license plates, registered to "move furniture for diplomats in Austria, France and Holland." Customs seize 163.4 kilos of heroin The statement also said that the purchase value of the narcotics seized is estimated at EUR 2mn, while its street value would have reached EUR 5mn. Officers found 161 package, each weighing 1.015 kilograms. The largest confiscation of narcotics at Gradina was last year, when police and customs seized 111 kilos. The statement adds that the co-called Balkan Route sees as much as 80 percent of overall production of heroin pass along its ways, mostly in transit through Serbia, with the goal of reaching western European markets, where drugs are more expensive. Afghanistan and Iran are the world's main producers of heroin.
