Miners to protest low wages

After the Ministry of mining and energy representatives refused to accept their demands earlier, the miners have asked for an urgent meeting with the prime minister.

“We have decided to go through with this and we believe that a miner’s salary of 23,000 dinars [287 euros] is unacceptable. We demand an increase only in the amount of the rise of the costs of living and the inflation. This is an existential matter and unless we are taken seriously they will have a thousand miners protesting in Belgrade on their hands”, union representative Raka Miletić said.

Miletić also said mine subsidies have been decreased by five percent last year, while the pension and medical care payments have not been made in the past six months, preventing a number of miners from retiring.
