“Lora 2” trial set to start

Veritas information center director Savo Štrbac told B92 that the so-called Lora 1 process only dealt with the murder of two Split Serbs and covered only a few months of 1992. According to him, many more people died in Lora camp, while official data shows that 1,005 persons were held there, with at least 70 of them murdered. Štrbac therefore does not see the Lora 2 process as a surprise.

He adds that thanks to cooperation between the Split and Belgrade war crimes prosecutors, a number of witnesses gave statements in Belgrade.

Serbia’s war crimes prosecution office spokesman Bruno Vekarić told B92 that they are cooperating with their Croatian counterparts on a number of cases, including the Lora 2 process.

“We are in daily contact with Croatian state prosecution, and have a month ago signed an agreement on cooperation, so I expect a more intensive cooperation in the coming period, including in that process”, Vekarić said.

Savo Štrbac points out that the two investigations into the events in the camp relate to 1992, even though the facility was used until 1997. He expects that perhaps future trials will bring those from the command structure to justice, since the first two dealt only with guards and prison commanders.
