5 arrested in Kosovo on war crimes charges

PRIŠTINA -- The EULEX police in coordination with the Kosovo police unit ROSU on Thursday arrested five persons suspected of committing war crimes.

The EU mission in Kosovo (EULEX) said that they are suspected of abusing civilians in a prison camp in Likovac, while one persons is investigated on charges of murdering a civilian during the 1998-99 conflict in Kosovo.

The prison camp in question was operated by the now disbanded ethnic Albanian KLA.

Earlier in the day, the koha.net website reported that "Kosovo's Special Prosecution had indicted several former KLA members from Drenica, among them Sulejman Selimi, a former KLA commander, now Kosovo's ambassador in Tirana."

According to this, member of the Kosovo assembly in Priština Fadil Demaku and Srbica Municipal President Sami Lushtaku are among those detained.
