During a search of the Belgrade apartment of Bosiljka and Darko Mladic, police illegally confiscated EUR 14,540 their attorney Milos Saljic has stated. Saljic argued in court today that this violated a warrant issued by an investigative judge of the War Crimes Chamber. "State illegally confiscated money from Mladic family" Bosiljka and Darko Mladic are the wife and son of fugitive former military leader of Serbs in Bosnia, General Ratko Mladic. "Police violated the investigative judge's warrant, which defined their task, and confiscated money from Mladic's family. According to the warrant, the police's task was to carry out a search with the aim of finding clues, medications, medical files and other things which would shed light on Mladic's whereabouts, and not to confiscate money," Saljic stressed at the beginning of the trial at the First Basic Court in Belgrade. Bosiljka and Darko Mladic filed a lawsuit against the state of Serbia due to illegal confiscation of EUR 14,540 during several police searches, as they believe that the money should not have been confiscated as no proceedings had been launched against them, adding that the state should have provided proof that the money was intended for the financing of Mladic's hiding. No representatives of the public prosecution attended the hearing held today, so Judge Vesna Sekulic read the state's response to the lawsuit, according to which the Mladic family have no right to file a lawsuit as the money did not belong to them. The state believes that the money was gathered for assisting and financing Mladic's hiding. At the hearing, Saljic presented the certificates of confiscation of the money, issued to the names of Bosiljka and Darko Mladic, which he said were sufficient evidence that the money did belong to them. A total of EUR 1,940 was confiscated from Bosiljka and EUR 12,600 from Darko. The court set a one-month deadline for the state to respond to the presented evidence, namely the certificates and the investigative judge's warrant.
