Police search Šarić property, make arrests

Serbian police (MUP) today continued to search the property assumed to be owned by Darko Šarić and his younger brother Duško, B92 has learned.

Serbian police (MUP) today continued to search the property assumed to be owned by Darko Saric and his younger brother Dusko, B92 has learned. MUP sent its Counter-Terrorist Unit (PTJ) to raid the premises in Kumanovska St. in Belgrade today just before 14:00 CET. Police search Saric property, make arrests Five persons, suspected of being associates of the Saric brothers, were arrested in the operation. The officers also seized “several rifles, including one sniper”. The Special Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime has expanded investigation against Saric and Goran Sokovic under suspicion that they organized a criminal group that smuggled cocaine from South America to Europe, together with Zeljko Vujanovic. Police have recently searched houses, apartments and other premises in 13 locations in Belgrade, and four houses in Novi Sad. The Saric brothers are also suspected of committing several murders the territory of the former Yugoslavia. Interpol has issued an arrest warrant for Darko Saric. The borthers are Montenegrins, but it was revealed recently that Darko Saric has held Serbian passport since 2005. In Podgorica, Director of Montenegrin Police Veselin Veljovic said that Darko Saric will be “immediately arrested if he is in Montenegro’s territory”. But Veljovic also stated that the suspect was not in the country. He told Podgorica’s daily Dan that police learned that Saric had been staying in his home town of Pljevlja in northern Montenegro until ten days ago, and that he was now “in a European country”.

Five persons, suspected of being associates of the Šarić brothers, were arrested in the operation. The officers also seized “several rifles, including one sniper”.
