8 arrested for stealing oil from NIS

BELGRADE -- An eight-member crime group was arrested, under suspicion that they stole crude oil from NIS, Serbian police (MUP) Director Milorad Veljović said.

Veljović specified that the arrests were conducted in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Zrenjanin, and that the group is believed to have organized to steal oil from a NIS pipeline worth “several hundred thousand euros” during the last two years.

Among them are a member of MUP, a NIS worker, and a director of a Belgrade based company.

Veljović specified that they stole the oil using “special equipment”, and in concert with “some NIS workers”, cutting the pipes when the pressure in the pipeline was low.

The crude oil was sold via a company named “Life Is Fine”, and using fictitious documentation, Veljović also stated.
