Muslim WW2 Nazi collaborator glorified
6 November 2009 | 09:29 | Source: Beta
BELGRADE -- The State Prosecution has pressed misdemeanor charges against a Sandžak football club after its fans glorified a Nazi collaborator.

FK Novi Pazar fans held a banner reading, "Aćif Efendija Stadium" during a recent match played in the Sandžak town.

They will be prosecuted under the Law on Prevention of Violence at Sports Venues.

Aćif Hadžiahmetović was a collaborator with the occupiers during the Second World War. He was executed by a Partisan army firing squad in 1945.

But, reports said, "a portion of the Bosniak [Bosnian Muslim] public represents him as a protector from Chetniks".

State Prosecutor Slobodan Radovanović said that the case would be investigated further, to identify those who are responsible for putting together the banner and those who carried it, "since they could face charges of spreading racial, religious and ethnic hatred".

Meanwhile, the club's fans have been quoted as saying that "it is their right" to express their opinion, and follow that which they "love, respect, and consider to be right".
