The Hague Tribunal will give its verdict on Friday, July 24, regarding the contempt of court charges against Vojislav Seselj. The Serb Radical Party (SRS) leader is first person indicted for war crimes who was also charged with contempt during his trial. Seselj contempt of court verdict on Friday Seselj was accused on January 21 that he was purposely obstructing the justice by releasing secret information in one of his books, based on which the identity of three protected witnesses in his trial could easily be determined. Seselj, who has been detained at the tribunal since 2003, has been indicted of war crimes committed in Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Vojvodina in between 1991-1993. In his book, published in November 2007, he revealed professional backgrounds of the witnesses were, and gave the names of their family members and other information, as well as parts of their statements given in court. He published the book knowing that the court prohibited this information from being released to the public. Seselj pleaded not guilty to these charges on March 6. If found guilty, he could face seven years in prison and a fine of EUR 100,000. Seselj surrendered to the Hague Tribunal voluntarily on February 24, 2003, and pleaded not guilty to the war crimes charges.
