The Hague Tribunal Secretariat has prohibited war crimes accused Milan Lukic all contact with the outside world. The decision was taken on the basis of suspicions that Lukic was calling and threatening the family of one of the witnesses in his trial from the Hague’s custody unit. He has been prohibited from contacting anyone other than the Trial Chamber and his legal advisers for a period of two weeks, during which time, the Secretariat will review transcripts received from the Tribunal and look into all telephone calls made to the witness’s family, before seeking an appropriate response from the Trial Chamber. The trial of Milan and Sredoje Lukic will open on December 1, rather than November 24, as originally planned. Milan Lukic’s defense team asked for a further six weeks to prepare for the case and obtain all the necessary documentation, but the Court considered this excessive, calculating that the defendant had, in fact, had three years to prepare for the trial.
