Šutanovac calls on Mladić to surrender
29 August 2008 | 10:07 | Source: Večernje novosti
BELGRADE -- Defense Minister Dragan Šutanovac has called on Hague fugitives Ratko Mladić and Goran Hadžić to surrender.

In an interview with Večernje Novosti, Šutanovac called on the fugitives to surrender, given the death that had occurred at the last protest meeting organized by the Serb Radical Party in the wake of Radovan Karadžić’s arrest.

“That’s why, if they are really ‘heroes’, then the two remaining war crimes fugitives should consider whether their lives are worth the lives of other people,” the minister said.

He said that he had no information on the possibility of Mladić being arrested soon.

Asked whether he “fears the arrest of Mladić,” Šutanovac said that he believed that “the Radicals, if Mladić was apprehended, would organize demonstrations, smash up Belgrade and wreak havoc on the streets.”

He said that the arrest and extradition of Karadžić had not caused as much tension in the country as some opposition parties would like to have one believe.
