The National Council for Cooperation with the Hague will ask Ban Ki-moon to conduct an inquiry based on Carla Del Ponte’s book revelations. Council Director Dusan Ignatovic said on Friday that the Council would ask the UN secretary general for an inquiry to be held into the activities of UNMIK officials regarding the claims made by the former Hague chief prosecutor in her book “The Hunt.” Belgrade to demand UN inquiry into Del Ponte claims “Former UNMIK chief Soren Jessen Petersen used to be a special representative of the UN secretary general, which is why the investigation is important,” Ignatovic told Tanjug. The Council decided on Thursday to ask the Hague Prosecution to launch proceedings against Petersen and other officials on allegations of obstructing investigations and contempt of court, he said. “The Council has long been aware of the strange relationship between Petersen and (former Kosovo Liberation Army commander) Ramush Haradinaj, who was indicted for most horrible crimes,” he said. “Petersen used to call Haradinaj his friend, and described him as a factor for peace and stability in Kosovo,” he noted. The state had to react after Del Ponte alleged in her book that UNMIK officials had obstructed the investigation against Haradinaj, and that hostages captured by the KLA were taken to northern Albania, where they were killed and their body parts removed and sold for transplant, Ignjatovic stressed.
