The long-awaited promotion in Italy of Carla Del Ponte’s book, “The Hunt”, has been called off at the last moment. The 416-page book, whose full title is “The Hunt: Me and War Criminals”, recounts the experiences of the former Hague chief prosecutor. Del Ponte book promotion called off In the last chapter, called “The Role of the EU and Italy in Events in the Former Yugoslavia”, Del Ponte is fiercely critical of Italy’s conduct vis-à-vis the Tribunal’s work. She even accuses Italy of, rather than helping the Tribunal, doing everything in its power to assist Serbia, even going so far as to be the country’s leading backer for EU membership. Given that the promotion in Italy has passed by almost unnoticed, the lack of interest among the Italian public is the most probable reason for the surprise postponement of today’s promotion and, indeed, any promotion in Italy, until further notice. Feltrinelli Publishers cited as their reason the author’s busy schedule, adding that a promotion might be held in Lugano in late April. In any case, the book will go on sale in Italian bookshops from April 3, and will cost EUR 20.
